State of The Company - January 2026

As the dust settles on the holiday season and we look squarely into 2026, it’s the natural time to reflect. For most, 2025 was just another year. But for us here in Irwin, it was the start of everything.

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind; the roast profiles, the shipping labels, the Instagram algorithm; but sometimes you have to pull back and look at the map.

Here is where Coal Mountain Coffee has been, and where we are heading next.

The Foundation: Looking Back at 2025

Officially, Coal Mountain Coffee was born on February 14th, 2025.

Internally, we’ve started calling this "Coal Mountain Day." While the world was enjoying a valentines with loved ones, we also were making a commitment to an idea that had been brewing (sorry couldn't help it) for a long time .

We didn’t set out to just be another coffee brand. We wanted to build something that felt sturdy. Something rooted in the rich, sometimes difficult, but always resilient history of Pennsylvania. This state was the engine room of America’s founding, built by tight knit communities, hard work, and an independent streak.

We believe coffee should reflect that spirit. It shouldn't be complicated or pretentious; it should be fuel for the modern frontier, roasted with care in small batches in our little corner of West PA.

Since flipping the switch to "live" back in October, it’s been a whirlwind of learning curves. We’ve dealt with everything from perfecting roast profiles late at night to wrestling with website inventory glitches.

But more importantly, we shipped our first bags. We saw total strangers take a chance on a new, unknown roaster. We saw creators on Instagram taking our beans into their homes and sharing their morning rituals with us.

To every single person who bought a bag in these first few months: Thank you.

The Frontier: Looking Ahead to 2026

If 2025 was about laying the foundation, 2026 is about building the structure. We have proof that people love the coffee. Now, we have two major missions for the year ahead.

1. Deepening Our Pennsylvania Roots

We are proud to be a Pennsylvania company. Before we conquer the world, we want to serve our neighbors.

In 2026, a primary goal is to increase our actual, physical community presence right here in our home state. We want Coal Mountain Coffee to be a staple in local kitchens. We want to move beyond just being a website and become a recognizable part of the West PA fabric. We look forward to shaking more hands and pouring more cups locally this year.

2. Breadcrumbing the Frontier Spirit (50 States by '27)

While our roots are here, the American spirit of independence and exploration isn't confined to PA borders.

Our ambitious goal for 2026 is to "breadcrumb" the Coal Mountain ethos to all 50 states. We want to see our matte and tan bags on kitchen counters from the coast of Maine to the mountains of Colorado and the beaches of Hawaii.

How are we going to do that? Through you.

We’ve already seen the power of the community sharing their brews on social media. Every time you post a Reel of your morning pour over or a photo of your mug on a hiking trail, you are planting a flag for us in new territory.

We are doubling down on showcasing your stories. Our Instagram isn't just about us; it's a gallery of our community fueling their own journeys across the country. If you'd like to be featured on our main page as a part of our challenge, just DM us on instagram with pics/vids of you enjoying our coffee.

The Trail Ahead

We are still small. We are still learning. But we are incredibly proud of the coffee we are roasting. We have some amazing new things percolating for early this year (like a certain dark, chocolatey, and almond flavored blend that's finally back in stock).

Thank you for being part of our first chapter. Here’s to carrying the fire into 2026.
