Adjusting Our Sourcing Amid Rising Tensions in Venezuela

As many of you know, Coal Mountain Coffee is built on a simple promise: quality beans, small batches, and a product you can trust. With recent political tensions rising in and around Venezuela, and the uncertainty that brings to nearby trade routes, we’ve been keeping a close eye on how this might affect the flow of South American coffee into the U.S.

While Colombia remains one of the world’s major coffee exporters, instability in the region can create ripple effects that slow shipping, complicate logistics, or spike prices overnight. Rather than wait for those complications to reach our customers, we’re taking a proactive step.

Shifting Toward Brazilian and Caribbean Beans

Starting in 2026, we'll be looking into the feasibility of shifting more of our supply lines toward Caribbean grown coffee. Brazil is the largest producer of coffee in the world, and their supply chains, especially right now, are more stable and less likely to be impacted by regional tensions.

Brazilian beans offer:

  • Reliable supply chains despite geopolitical shifts
  • High quality beans that meet our standards
  • Consistent flavor with chocolate and nutty profiles

For blends like Midnight Mocha and Mocha Sunrise, this transition will be nearly seamless. Our flavored coffees will continue to taste exactly like you know them, rich, smooth, and dependable. For Coal Mountain Brew we will continue to source Colombian beans for as long as we can. 

What This Means for You

In short:

No changes to bag size, and no changes to quality.

However, we will be monitoring cost of beans to see if we have to adjust our prices. We’re adjusting our backend sourcing to keep things running smoothly and avoid any supply chain surprises later, but we want to be upfront about potential price increases.

Coal Mountain Coffee is a small business, but we operate with "big business" standards. Taking care of our customers means planning ahead, staying flexible, and making sure every bag you open delivers the same consistent experience you’ve come to expect from us.

If tensions ease and Colombia’s export lanes stabilize, we will incorporate Colombian beans again, but for now, Brazil gives us the reliability we need to keep serving you without interruption.
